Labcorp is acquiring Millennium Health in a move aimed at expanding its toxicology testing capabilities throughout the U.S. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Millennium Health’s accredited specialty laboratory focuses on testing for recent use of prescription medications and illicit drugs. Labcorp said the acquisition will also provide clinical data for patients living with chronic pain, substance use disorders, and mental health challenges.

Strategic Fit

The transaction fits Labcorp’s stated strategy of accelerating growth by expanding its testing business. Fierce Biotech described it as part of a broader acquisition push announced this fall that has also included Myriad Genetics, OPKO Health and assets from BioReference Health.

For Labcorp, the practical value is not just the added assay capability. The company said patients, clinicians and Millennium customers are expected to benefit from Labcorp’s broader test menu, patient service center network and digital tools for test ordering and result delivery. That points to a familiar medtech scale thesis: specialty testing assets can become more commercially useful when plugged into a larger national distribution and service infrastructure.

Labcorp’s Andrea Throop, Ph.D., head of toxicology, said combining Labcorp’s national scale, scientific leadership and digital capabilities with Millennium Health’s toxicology testing and drug surveillance tools creates an opportunity to broaden access to toxicology services for providers and patients. Millennium Health CEO Scott Walton said the deal should strengthen the company’s ability to support customers and patient care in communities across the country.

Why It Matters

The strategic signal is that Labcorp is using M&A to deepen specific testing categories rather than merely add volume. Toxicology tied to chronic pain, substance use disorders and mental health carries clinical relevance, but it also benefits from reach, logistics and reporting systems that national lab operators already control. Buying Millennium Health gives Labcorp a way to strengthen that niche with an existing specialty platform instead of building it from scratch.
